Lesson 10 - Lessons in Positivity
Abstract: We continue with the lesson of communication. Additional features of effective communication are covered in this lesson
SCM delivers the opposite result when we use the word don't in sentences. So, avoid using don't in sentences - SCM has a peculiar quality. It executes don’t messages ignoring the denying part. It takes the don't statement, and reads as a do statement. For example when I say: I don't want to go. It takes it to mean I want to go. So the end result is the opposite of what we said. Here are some other examples.
Statement | SCM reads it to mean |
I don’t want to be late. | I want to be late. |
I don’t want to miss the bus / train / flight. | I want to miss the bus / train / flight. |
I don’t want my weight to increase. | I want my weight to increase. |
SCM increases the intensity of want, need, wish, desire, will when we incorporate these words in sentences. It is best to say the same in other ways without using these words. This can be done by converting them into present perfect tense. Some examples:
Instead of | Say |
I will be reaching there at 10. | I am reaching there at 10. |
I want to meet him tomorrow. | I am meeting him tomorrow. |
I only wish my job will be done. | My job is getting accomplished. |
Our mood, sentiment and belief bolster the effect of a message when they are supporting. The messaging proves counterproductive when they are not supporting. It is good to install the right sentiment, mood and belief before delivering the message. The SCM gets confused and chooses the easier of the two alternatives. This works to our disadvantage.
Make sure whether you want to do it yourself or you want SCM to do. Our SCM gives up when we take up responsibility. So we have to make sure that we do nothing to let the SCM conclude that it can give up responsibility. As an example I have said this : I am getting a parking on arrival at Samudra Restaurant at 10. Now I suddenly think about a job on the way. I take up that job. Now the SCM will give up its responsibility thinking that I have taken it up.
Metaphor of Krishna and Arjuna from Mahabharata Kurukshetra War. Arjuna willingly handed over all authority and control in the hands of Krishna. He only acted on Krishna's dictates. Similarly in our case. We are only executors of SCMs directives. We are primarily responsible for only six things that promote our survival. They are Food, Water, Protection, Safety, Security and Reproduction. So we do only our obligatory duties and leave the rest to the SCM. Why? Because SCM is our higher self.
Make messages clear, unambiguous and powered. Messages are weakened by the accompanying sentiment or mood or the nature of their structure.
Say No to | Make Message |
Message conveying doubt | Make message conveying confidence |
Garbled message | Clear Message |
Confusing message | Clear message |
Self Negating message | Self affirming message |
If - then, Yes - but | Make them free of dependency |
Lack of trust | Believe in what you say |
Interference | Leave it to SCM once given |
Hierarchy of strength of messaging High to Low
Most Strong | Accompanied by belief, self worth, role model |
Moderately Strong | Limiting Beliefs |
Strong | Feelings and Emotions |
Average | Thoughts lacking conviction |
Average | Lack of patience |
Average | Doubt |
Strengthening by making messages making them free of A-Priori and Posteriori contents There are two types of statements. A-priori and Posteriori.
A-Priori statements: These use facts or principles that are known to be true in order to decide what the probable effect of results of something will be. They haven’t eaten all day, so they will / must be hungry. They are not working hard enough. How will they complete?
Posteriori : Analysing something by starting from the known facts and then thinking about the possible causes of facts. Eg. Look, the streets are wet so it must have rained last night. This fellow is a late riser. He must be leaving a lot of jobs undone.
Summary: Many accompanying factors of effectively communicating to the SCM have been covered in this lesson.
Note: Please read the contents of this lesson several times and make a mental note of the ones that apply to you or remedial action.
