Lesson 15 - Lessons in Positivity
Abstract: This lesson deals with Creating Effective Affirmations
Jack Canfield is a motivational speaker. His book 'Success Principles' is a popular publication.
He has mentioned some nine guidelines for creating effective affirmations. I am repeating them with some modifications to fit my format of Positivity.
- Start Affirmations with the words I am . . . . . Why? One may ask. Our SCM interprets this use as being a command.
- Using the Present Continuous Tense or better still a Present Perfect Tense. I am reaching the station on time. Better: I am reaching the station at 10 am today. Still Better: I see myself at Pune Railway Station at 10 am.
- Make the affirmation free of any negative word. Wrong: I am not afraid of driving. Right: I am free of fear of driving. Right: I am free of fear when driving.
- Make the affirmation short. Like we count words when we advertise in classified ads in the newspaper, because each word costs money.
- Account for time while delivering the affirmation. I would give a year when messaging to buy a flat / six months to buy a car / a month to buy jewellery / an extra 20 minutes to ask for a parking slot.
- Make the affirmation specific. I am coming to own a new car. Making it specific : I am coming to own a new Red Honda City Car.
- Make it executable by choosing correct words. I confidently deliver speeches / talks before a crowd. I am free of hesitation expressing myself.
- Add a dynamic emotion. Some commonly used words are : joyfully, happily, proudly, calmly, confidently, delighted, enthusiastic, enthusiastically, coolly, serenely, triumphantly. I am confident that I will deliver the talk before students nicely.
- Affirmations are made for self. They have to be intelligently worded when they are made for others. I see our maid Janaki coming on time to work.
- Add something better when wanting. A nice roomy, well lit, well ventilated three bedroom, hall, kitchen flat with a balcony / terrace is coming to me in Andheri West or somewhere better.
Summary: We have seen ten ways to make effective affirmations.
All consideration, cooperation, help and assistance comes to me easily.
All things good come to me easily.
I happily enjoy all good things in life.
I get ideas about how to get over things that are difficult and challenging.
I am a blessed person.
